Because we work with living materials, your wood requires simple but intentional care.
Culinary & Provision Boards
- Cleaning: Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Never soak or place in a dishwasher.
- Drying: Crucial: Stand your boards on its edge to air dry. Never lie it flat while wet, as this causes uneven drying and warping.
- What to Avoid: Harsh chemicals, bleach, and direct sunlight for extended periods.
Culinary Boards: Our culinary boards are finished with 100% food-grade mineral oil for a safe, non-toxic serving surface. Re-apply food-grade mineral oil (or butcher block conditioner) every 3–4 months (or when the wood feels “thirsty” or looks dull). This helps maintains the moisture barrier and prevents cracking.
Provision & Flight Boards: Our provision boards and flights feature a premium, moisture-resistant shield. These boards are not intended for use as cutting surfaces! Cutting on the board will damage the protective finish. To keep your board food-safe and beautiful, use it exclusively for serving and presentation.
Furniture
- Environment: Wood “breathes.” Extreme changes in humidity or placing directly over a heater vent can cause minor seasonal expansion or contraction.
- Protection: Use coasters or felt pads. While our moisture-resistant shield provides durability, avoid leaving standing water on the surface.
Home Decor & Accents:
- Cleaning: Simply dust with a soft, dry cloth.
- (Shelving) Installation: Safety First: Always prioritize mounting into wall studs. If studs are unavailable, use high-quality heavy-duty anchors.
Every piece of salvaged timber carries a unique history. Small natural checks, knots, and grain variations are not defects—they are the hallmarks of authentic, handcrafted wood. These features do not affect the structural integrity of your piece.
